The National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland (NBSCCCI, also referred to as the National Board) is an independent body funded by the Association of Missionaries and Religious in Ireland (AMRI) and the Conference of Catholic Bishops in Ireland.
It assists the development of policy, procedures and practices across the Church in Ireland. It offers advice on best practice, including training and advice on case management and implementation of national standards and guidance. It monitors the practice of child safeguarding across the Church. The website can be accessed on www.safeguarding.ie
In 2016, the National Board produced ‘Safeguarding Children Policy and Standards for the Catholic Church in Ireland’ which contains a policy statement, seven child safeguarding standards as well as guidance on the implementation of these standards.
In early 2024, the National Board concluded the revision of the Church’s Safeguarding Children Policy and Standards. The new policy, ‘A Safe and Welcoming Church’, has been approved by both the IEC and AMRI and came into effect on 12 June 2024. It contains a policy statement, revised child safeguarding standards and guidance on the implementation of these standards. This document is available on www.safeguarding.ie
