Launch of Reek Sunday Pilgrim Prayer Card
You or a representative are invited to the launch of the official Pilgrim Prayer Card for Croagh Patrick in Carrowbeg House Westport on Saturday July 27 at 7:30pm. The launch will be performed by His Excellency Most Rev. Charles J. Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland and Most Rev. Michael Neary, Archbishop of Tuam.
The prayer was composed by Mary Connolly and photography is by well-known local photographer Liam Lyons. It is a contemporary prayer card which invites people along the ancient pilgrim path in a reflective prayerful way. The prayer card has prayers for the following stages of the pilgrimage:
- At the foot of the mountain
- Along the path – a moment to catch your breath
- At the ridge – a moment to rest
- On the summit – a moment to bow your head
- On the way down – a moment to let go
The prayer card also includes the beautiful ‘The Deer’s Cry/Saint Patrick’s Breastplate’ and a welcome message to pilgrims. The prayer card, which is waterproof and folds to pocket size, is a Year of Faith initiative and it will be made available free of charge to all who climb Croagh Patrick on Reek Sunday.
For thousands of years pilgrims have been following in the footsteps of Saint Patrick. They have followed the traditional Stations of the Reek, however many are unaware what the traditional stations are. This year for the first time, the stations have been produced on a handy pocket-sized, weather-proof prayer card for pilgrims to carry. This will also be made available to pilgrims.
Notes to Editors:
The Pilgrim Prayer Card and the Stations of the Reek Booklet can be viewed on www.catholicbishops.ie along with all the details about this year’s pilgrimage on Sunday 28 July.
