RULES FOR RESEARCHERS
Introduction:
The Tuam Diocesan Archive is open, at restricted times, to genuine researchers who wish to consult its collections of archives relating to the history of the Archdiocese of Tuam.
As the diocese does not have a full-time archivist, it is necessary that intending visitors contact the Diocesan Secretary, in advance, at Archbishop’s House, Tuam (Tel 093 24166 email: archdiocesetuam@gmail.com ) to make an appointment at a later date.
01. Researchers must sign the Attendance Book in the Reading Room before commencing research each day.
02. Readers must not remove any documents from the Reading Room
03. No pens, biros, markers or erasers should be brought into the Reading Room nor should any food or drink be consumed on the premises.
04. Smoking is prohibited in the Reading Room and any other part of the building.
05. Archives are fragile and must be handled with care at all times. The Archivist will advise as to the handling of documents. Documents should not be lent on, or folded, creased or marked in any way. Do not lick or moisten your fingers before turning pages.
06. Pencils only may be used for the taking of notes. Pencils and sharpeners are available on request from the Archivist. Laptops may be used only with permission. .
07. Photography and photocopying is permitted on application to the Archivist.
No facilities exist at present in the archives for photocopying but Digital photography is permitted at the discretion of the Archivist.
08. Researchers, as a courtesy to others are requested to turn off their mobile phones.
